Abstract Unusual as well as unexpected conditions on the roads and problems like congestion, unexpected delays, randomness in passenger demand, irregular vehicle dispatching times affect the smooth operation of the bus system and the movement of vehicles. Passenger inconvenience could be avoided by introducing a system which provides real-time information about location and estimated time of arrival of the bus, by installing GPS modules on buses. The GPS module will be interfaced with a computer and data will be automatically saved in database. Using an Android app passengers will be able to retrieve the real time information and location of the buses.
