An Expert Lecture on Prototype Validation & Converting Prototype into a Startup

19 June, 2021

The Chemical Engineering Department under the Student Startup for Innovative Policy (SSIP) organized an expert lecture on ‘‘Prototype Validation - Converting Prototype into a Startup” on 19th June 2021, from 11:30 AM to 1 PM on Microsoft Teams under the coordination of Dr. Milap G. Nayak. The webinar was conducted by expert Dr. Akash B. Pandey (Assistant Director, Center for Startup and Innovation, MSU-Baroda, Gujarat). The webinar was well appreciated by over 80 attendees.

The webinar was organized with an objective to encourage participants to come out with innovative ideas and convert their technical strength into a feasible prototype & to create awareness among the participants for the concept of prototype and its types. Also, the participants were made aware of the procedure of prototype development, viability of prototype, validation and financial aid for the startup.

The expert discussed different types of prototyping such as sketch/diagram, paper interfaces, storyboard, role-playing, physical methods and user-driven with examples including the importance of development of strategies such as choosing co-founder, mentor choice, market survey, short and long term planning, minimum viable product, funding sources, validation of prototype, marketing and execution. Along with this, the role of innovation in chemical domains including chemical cleaners, drug delivery systems, sanitizer, catalyst, refinery up-gradation, green polymer, coating etc., were also discussed in detail. The participants understood the importance of creating a startup. They were also made aware of how to convert the prototype into a business. The expert summed up the event with the quote "Prototype is Pro-to-type which means prior to the large scale type."
