Objective of the Webinar:

The Department of Electrical Engineering organized an expert lecture on “Recent Advances in Electrical Materials and Their Applications” on 7th February 2022 for undergraduate students. The session was delivered by Prof. Vaishali A. Adhwaryu, Assistant Professor at L.D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad, who has expertise in electrical materials, insulation systems, and power engineering applications.

Prof. Adhwaryu began the lecture with the fundamentals of electrical materials, emphasizing the classification of conductors, semiconductors, insulators, and magnetic materials. She explained the significance of selecting the right material in designing electrical machines, transformers, cables, and high-voltage equipment.

Key points discussed included:

  • Properties of electrical materials such as conductivity, resistivity, dielectric strength, and thermal stability.
  • Advances in nanomaterials and composite materials for improved efficiency.
  • Use of superconducting materials in power transmission and magnetic levitation.
  • Applications of semiconducting and insulating materials in high-voltage systems.
  • Emerging trends in eco-friendly and sustainable electrical materials for a green energy future.

The lecture also included real-life industry applications, highlighting how material selection impacts energy efficiency, safety, and reliability of electrical systems.

The session concluded with a lively Q&A session, where students asked questions about research opportunities, latest developments in superconductors, and applications of nanotechnology in electrical engineering.

Outcome of the Event:

  • Students gained knowledge of the properties and applications of modern electrical materials.
  • They understood the importance of material selection in electrical equipment design.
  • The lecture encouraged students to explore research, innovation, and higher studies in electrical materials and power engineering.
