Industrial Visit to Dwarkesh Chemicals

25 February, 2026

The existence of real learning beyond the four walls of the classroom, with this objective industrial visit, was organized for the B. E. Semester-6 students of Chemical Engineering Department. Total 42 Students of the B. E. Semester-6 along with two faculty coordinators Prof. Jay Trivedi and Dr. Ujvala Christian visited Dwarkesh Chemicals Ltd. (a N-PROPYL BROMIDE and N-BUTYL BROMIDE manufacturing plant), in G.I.D.C, Phase-III, Vatva, Ahmedabad. Dwarkesh Chemicals was established in 1986 by a dynamic, visionary and hardworking team. Starting with a capacity of 25MT they have scaled up to the production of 1500MT per annum without compromising on quality. Industry will plan to scale up to 5000MT and add a whole new array of products.

Key Features:

  • Organizing Department: Chemical Engineering Department
  • Name of the Industry: Dwarkesh Chemicals Ltd. G.I.D.C, Phase-III, Vatva-Ahmedabad.
  • Day and Date of Visit: Wednesday 25th February,2026
  • No. of Students: 42
  • Faculty Coordinators: Prof. J. B. Trivedi and Dr. U. P. Christian, Assistant Professor         Chemical Engineering Department, VGEC.

Visit Insight:

Students visited the production unit where bromine, catalyst and n-butyl were used to form the N-BUTYL BROMIDE and N-PROPYL BROMIDE:

  • Bromine in liquid form of 3 Kg capacity (kept in bottles) are purchased and stored in stacks as per safety guidelines. It further undergoes halogenations reaction with N-Butylene and N-Propylene in the glass- lined batch reactor.
  • Sulfuric acid is generated as a by-product during the reaction process.
  • Working of major process equipment like Distillation Column, Batch Agitated Reactor, Condenser, Cooling tower, ETP plant, high density pump, etc. were explained.
  • The waste water generated is processed in the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) of GIDC Vatva under the guidelines of GPCB.
  • Final Product purity is tested using Gas Chromatography method. Working of Analytical Gas Chromatography equipment was demonstrated with actual sample analysis.

Outcomes:

  • Students got the opportunity to interact with the owner of industry and plant personnel who explained process and working of different process equipment in detail.
