Introduction

The Cyber Mystery Game as a pioneering initiative blending gamification with cyber awareness. The event was designed to transform complex security concepts into fun-based, accessible learning experiences that would resonate with students while serving as an effective icebreaker for new club members.

Event Structure

 

The Cyber Mystery Game featured four progressive rounds, each designed to test different aspects of cybersecurity knowledge whilst maintaining high engagement through gamification and theatrical elements.

  1. Cyber Mystery Game: Students scanned QR cards featuring power-ups such as “Locked account → Wait 1 min” or “Used 2FA → Double your score.” This gamified approach to cybersecurity learning generated laughter and active interaction amongst participants.
  2. Hack or Safe? Quiz Show: A volunteer “hacker” dressed in hoodie and mask playfully teased teams with cyber questions. The “Hacker vs Audience” scoreboard created an exciting competitive atmosphere that kept energy levels high.
  3. Live Phishing Challenge: Participants identified fake Instagram DMs and WhatsApp forwards in real-time scenarios. The fastest team earned the coveted “Cyber Sherlock Award” for their detective skills and quick thinking.
  4. Cyber Dare (Final Round): Teams took on detective-style missions, analysing fake scam screenshots. The most compelling dramatic explanation earned the prestigious title of “Chief Cyber Defender.”

Finale – Winner Reveal + Club Pitch: The event concluded with an introduction to TCF's mission, future events, and the broader cybersecurity culture being cultivated at VGEC.

The success of the Cyber Mystery Game reflects the collaborative efforts of the entire team. From initial conceptualisation through to flawless execution, each member contributed their unique expertise and dedication.
